Definition

Sale of new motor vehicles of the passenger car and similar small vehicle type, regardless of how sold; passenger cars, commercial vehicles of the van type, 1-ton pickup trucks, including passenger cars with a bed, and semi-trucks; vehicles driven off-road such as jeeps, golf carts, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), go-karts, electric stand-up vehicles, or Segways.

Foreign ownership

The Foreign Business Act B.E. 2542 (1999) restricts majority foreign ownership only for the activities named in its three annexed Lists. This activity is not among the mappings we hold, so a foreign investor can generally hold up to 100% of the equity, subject to any sector-specific licence and to minimum-capital rules (typically THB 2 million per restricted business, or THB 3 million where a Foreign Business Licence applies).

  • US Treaty of Amity — US nationals may hold majority ownership in most activities, treated as Thai nationals for FBA purposes.
