Definition

Installation of machinery by specialists. However, the installation of equipment that is a part of the same type of building or construction, such as escalator installation, electrical wiring, burglar alarm system or air conditioning system, is classified in the major category F (construction). This includes the installation of industrial machinery in industrial plants, the installation of process control equipment in industrial plants, the installation of various types of equipment used in industry, such as communication equipment, mainframe computers and similar computers, radiation equipment and equipment used in electrotherapy, etc., the disassembly of large machinery and equipment, the activities of mechanics in factories, rigging, machinery and the installation of equipment in bowling alleys.

Excluded from this code

  • Wiring installation, security system, see sub-category 4321
  • Installation of air conditioning systems, see sub-category 4322
  • Installation of elevators, escalators, automatic doors, vacuum cleaning systems, etc. See sub-category 4329.
  • Installation of doors, stairs, wooden decorations, fixed shelves and other furniture, see sub-group 4330.
  • Installation of personal computers and peripherals, see subgroup 6209.

Foreign ownership

Not on the Foreign Business Act restricted lists.

The Foreign Business Act B.E. 2542 (1999) restricts majority foreign ownership only for the activities named in its three annexed Lists. This activity is not among the mappings we hold, so a foreign investor can generally hold up to 100% of the equity, subject to any sector-specific licence and to minimum-capital rules (typically THB 2 million per restricted business, or THB 3 million where a Foreign Business Licence applies).

If an activity is restricted, the routes to foreign majority

  • BOI promotion — the Board of Investment can grant up to 100% foreign ownership for promoted activities, with tax and non-tax incentives.
  • Foreign Business Licence — permission from the Ministry of Commerce to operate a List 2 or List 3 activity as a foreign-majority company.
  • US Treaty of Amity — US nationals may hold majority ownership in most activities, treated as Thai nationals for FBA purposes.
